A dining table needs to do more than look beautiful in a photograph. Before ordering a marble inlay table, check how the top, base, chairs and delivery route will work together. This practical checklist is from Inlay Marble Crafts, the business behind Decor Crafter.
1. Start with your room and your chairs
Measure the usable dining area, including doors, cabinets and the space people need to move behind occupied chairs. Mark your proposed tabletop outline on the floor with removable tape. Pull out the chairs and walk around the outline rather than judging the size from a photograph alone.
Send the maker the intended tabletop length and width, or diameter, together with your chair dimensions and desired finished table height. Check whether measurements describe the stone top itself or the complete assembled table.
2. Confirm exactly what the purchase includes
A tabletop-only listing and a complete table are not the same purchase. Ask whether a wooden or marble stand is included, whether it arrives separately, and what assembly is required. If you already own a base, provide its dimensions and construction details so suitability can be assessed before ordering.
Do not choose a base on appearance alone. Ask the maker to confirm the support arrangement for the particular tabletop, its weight and its intended use. A photograph of a table on a display stand does not by itself establish what is included in the price.
3. Ask for details of the actual piece
Request an overall photograph, close-up inlay photographs, an edge view and the confirmed dimensions. Ask for the marble and inlay materials used in that specific design. Stone names should come from the maker, not from guessing what a photograph resembles.
For a custom design, agree on the pattern, dimensions, included base and approval stages in writing. For an available piece, ask whether the photographs show the exact item being offered.
4. Plan the delivery route before dispatch
Measure doorways, stair turns and lift access. Request the packed dimensions, number of packages and packed weight for each package. Those figures are different from the size and weight of the unpacked tabletop.
Confirm the delivery service level, unloading arrangements, assembly responsibility, insurance or damage-reporting procedure, and any destination charges before paying. Do not assume that every shipping quote includes indoor placement or installation.
